We’ve all seen numerous versions of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, but we guarantee you’ve never seen one quite as funny and clever as this — all while staying amazingly true to the original! Set in a high school in 1969, there’s a lot of tension between the various cliques: the jocks, the hippies, the drama club and the science club. Principal Theseus, along with Vice-Principal Hippolyta, decide to bring in Robin Goodfellow, a motivational speaker and conflict resolution expert, to calm things down. Using his nickname Puck, he arrives at the school right as Theseus and Hippolyta announce they are going to get married… at the Homecoming Dance! Better yet, they announce that they want the drama club, led by Bottom and Quince, to perform a play during the Homecoming weekend! Puck has his job cut out for him as he mixes with each group of students and learns that science geek Helena still pines for fellow science nerd Demetrius, except that he now has a crush on the beautiful hippy girl Hermia. But Hermia has a crush on star football player Lysander, who is being ostracized from the team because he’s hanging out with a hippy. As Homecoming King Oberon complains to the jocks about the Homecoming Queen Titania, Puck interjects that they should talk to the science club, which has been experimenting with love potions. You can see where this is going as the students prepare for the all-night lock-in at the school after the football game! No doubt the bard himself would be smiling at this smart and witty retelling of his most famous comedy!
