It’s that time of year when everybody posts a year in review list. Favorite movies, biggest news stories, most influential people, and so on. I’ve been excited to see The Bookman’s Tale show up in a few year-end favorite lists, including a listing in Library Journal as one of the best books of 2013. So, I wondered—if novels could talk, or at least type, what would The Bookman’s Tale list as its top moments of 2013?
May 6: Barnes and Noble announces that I am the latest book in the B & N Recommends program. This means I will get featured prominently in all their stores and online. I am proud to be in a program whose previous graduates include The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.
May 25: I am picked by Parade Magazine as one of the top ten summer reads in fiction. This makes me feel nice as my author has been ignoring me lately while he works on re-writing some other book.
May 28: Publication Day. My author comes to see me at his local B & N and I am EVERYWHERE! Now I have his attention.
June 3: Big Book Launch at Summit School. My author gives a presentation and then signs 150 books for fans waiting in line.
June 5: As my author is leaving for an event in Atlanta he gets the news that I am on the New York Times Bestseller List.
June 24: I am featured in People Magazine as a great summer read. This is probably the closest I will ever get to Jennifer Aniston.
June 26: I am published in Australia and New Zealand. My author is interviewed on Radio New Zealand. On the same day I am released as an audio book, read by the incomparable John Bedford Lloyd.
July 13: I am listed by USA Today as a weekend pick for book lovers.
July 18: I am published in the United Kingdom. My author does several events there in September.
September 27: My author approves my paperback cover which, if possible, is even more stunning than the hardcover. I look forward to wearing this new outfit in 2014!
